Dr Douglas Mota Dias is a Lecturer in Computing at Atlantic Technological University's Department of Computing and Information Systems. He holds a BSc in Computer Systems from Rio de Janeiro State University (UERJ), as well as an MSc and a PhD in Electrical Engineering & Computational Intelligence from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio). Before joining ATU, Dr Mota Dias held international, academic and research positions including Post-Doctoral Researcher at PUC-Rio and the University of Limerick, Lecturer at Griffith College, and Associate Professor at UERJ. He has extensive experience in applied R&D, having collaborated on major industry projects mainly with Petrobras, Intel, and Huawei. His research has led to the creation of open-source machine learning tools and patents, including systems for automated digital circuit design and crude oil refinery scheduling optimisation. Dr Mota Dias is a member of Lero, the Research Ireland Centre for Software, and has been a member of the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society for over 15 years. Teaching and research interests involve Evolutionary Computation, Computational Intelligence, Machine Learning, Explainable AI, High-Performance Computing, and Electronics.
