Join the AutoCircuit project to develop cutting-edge machine learning models that automatically generate digital circuits from high-level specifications. This is an exciting opportunity to work at the intersection of AI and hardware design, contributing to a novel toolchain that integrates with industry-standard EDA workflows. Based at UL, you'll collaborate with a dynamic, interdisciplinary team funded by an Enterprise Ireland Commercialisation Award with the goal of forming a successful deep-tech company.

This industry and spinout focused project will position you as a core member of the founding team, giving you the opportunity to secure a founder’s equity position upon incorporation and significantly de-risking your entrepreneurial journey. The principal founders are all graduates of successful startups.

The successful candidate will lead the development of novel machine learning models for AutoCircuit — a next-generation system that automatically generates synthesisable Register Transfer Level (RTL) digital designs from high-level specifications. The work will involve a combination of generative and predictive modelling, including adapting techniques from program synthesis, code generation, and symbolic ML.

It is expected that this work will achieve the following:

  • Develop software for Machine Learning experiments.
  • Design and run experiments using real-world test cases in collaboration with industry.

Potential candidates are encouraged to contact Conor Ryan informally to discuss the positions. Please refer to [ML Researcher AutoCircuit] in the subject of your e-mail.

Essential Criteria:
  • Postdoctoral Researcher
    • A Doctoral Degree (level 10 NFQ) in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, or Artificial Intelligence.
    • Strong publication record in ML/AI (minimum three peer-reviewed publications)
  • Research Assistant
    • BSc/MSc in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, or Artificial Intelligence with 3+ (BSc) or 1+ (MSc) years relevant experience
    • Strong publication record in ML/AI (minimum three peer-reviewed publications)
  • Both Positions
    • Demonstrable experience in C++ and Python (e.g., contributions to Open Source, public GitHub repositories, or work certifications).
Desirable Criteria:
  • Experience with Generative AI (e.g., GANs, Autoencoders).
  • Desire to see your work translate into real-world, commercial impact..
  • Experience with compiler design and attribute grammars.
  • Exposure to high-end cloud compute services.
  • Familiarity with EDA tools and RTL design work.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.

Candidates should be highly motivated, proficient in interaction with others (this is a senior position in a group of 20+ researchers), and have an interest in working with real world problems.

For further information, please feel free to contact Conor Ryan by putting [ML Postdoc AutoCircuit] in the subject line or visit the University's HR website and search for Recruitment Reference #079170. All applications are handled centrally by the University’s HR department.
