Dr. Conor Ryan

Bio:

Conor is the director the Biocomputing and Developmental System group. He has published over 100 refereed papers and more than a dozen books. He is the inventor of Grammatical Evolution, and has supervised eight PhDs on the topic.

Dr. Atif Azad

Bio:

Raja Muhammad Atif Azad is a post doctoral researcher with a B.E in Computer Software Engineering and a PhD in Computer Science. He is working towards design and analysis of Genetic Programming Algorithms to assist the radiologists in identifying suspicious patterns in mammograms. This work is being done in collaboration with BreastCheck Ireland. Also, he is examining the impact of life time learning in Genetic Programming in terms of accelerating evolution and reducing code growth.

Dr. John Sturdy

Bio:

John is a research assistant, and has an MA and a PhD in Computer Science. He is working on an optimized scriptable platform to support Grammatical Evolution for a variety of programming languages including machine code and byte codes as well as conventional textual programming languages.

Damien Hogan

Bio:

Damien is a PhD student and has a BSc in Multimedia and Computer Games Development, and a BEng in Computer Engineering. He is working on using Evolutionary Algorithms to optimise certain areas of Solid State Devices. The project aims to improve the endurance of these drives. This has the potential to dramatically reduce their cost, while at the same time increasing their size. This work is being conducted in co-operation with EMC, a leading data storage company who will be providing hardware for testing, and the Limerick Institute of Technology who will be providing expert electronics knowledge.

Rezaul Karim

Bio:

Muhammad Rezaul Karim is a PhD researcher and has a BSc with Honours degree in Computer Science and Engineering. He is currently working on Machine Code Grammatical Evolution.

Jeannie Fitzgerald

Bio:

Jeannie is a PhD student with a BSc in Computer Systems. Her PhD research is contributing to the BDS Mammography Project. The focus of her work is on texture classification with the aim of developing an automated system for the classification of digital mammograms in accordance with the Breast Imaging, Reporting and Data System(BIRADS).

James Patten

Bio:

James is a postgraduate student with BSc in Multimedia and Computer Games Development from the University of Limerick and a Diploma in Information Technology from Dublin City University. He is working on the automatic generation of character behaviours for computer games and simulations using grammatical evolution. This work will allow the generation of more realistic, dynamic and contextualized behaviours leading to increased levels of player immersion.
